The Elections Photo Contest is Back

Picture displays Voter Information Guides

Do you have a knack for taking great photos? Are you an aspiring photographer or do you just enjoy taking pictures with your smartphone? If you answered yes to any of these, you should consider taking part in a fun program from the Contra Costa County Elections Division.  You can have your photo seen by over 600,000 Contra Costa residents!

Contra Costa County Elections invites photographers of all ages and skill levels to participate in our Voter Information Guide Photo Contest. One of the unique features of the Contra Costa County Voter Information Guide is that the cover features a photo to showcase the theme for the June 2018 photo; “Civic life in Contra Costa County.”

The Elections’ Outreach Division will be accepting photos from Contra Costa residents through midnight August 6. Submissions should be sent to Outreach@vote.cccounty.us and include “Photo Contest entry” on the subject line.

Photograph entries will be judged on five components; Expression of Theme, Technical Execution, Originality, Composition and Photo Description.

The First Place winner will have their picture on the June 2018 Contra Costa Voter Information Guide, which is mailed to 600,000+ voters. First, second and third place winners will have their pictures posted in our lobby and on our website.

Please note that the photo size is 5.75” x 3.1875” and larger photos will be cropped to fit that size. You can submit photos in color or black and white, but note that photos for the Voter Information Guide run without color.

Only digital photos will be accepted.

A complete application includes the following:

  • A Tiff or Jpeg file of your digital photo, 300 dpi preferred (should be at least 150 dpi)
  • A completed Photo Contest Submission Form , including a photo description (75 words or less)

The County will have the right to use all submissions in the County’s Voter Information Guide, other election materials and the Contra Costa Elections website.
